Dog "D" picks up 14 points in 21 - 14 win over Waller Waller's second play of the game was a quarterback keeper that went 67 yards and 6 points, at that moment I thought this could be a very long night. Well I was wrong and I should know better to ever doubt Nederland's readiness to dig in and show how well coached they are. The Bulldog Defense not only stopped the next 9 possession's they returned 2 of the possessions into Bulldog points. 1.) #2 Wareall Grogan was chasing down Phillips (Waller QB) and decided he would just go ahead and take the ball right out of his hands and then proceed to sprint 80 yards for the 1st Bulldog Touchdown. 2.) Phillips (Waller QB) was handing off to the tailback the same time that #2 Wareall Grogan was hitting him, the ball shot out and Dravannti Johnson scooped it up and ran 28 yards for Nederland's 2nd score of the night. The Dogs offense struggled to get the ball in the endzone most of the game forcing Nederland to punt 7 times with 2 of Nederland's drives stopped by interceptions. Trahan punted all 7 times with one for 64 yards and another for 52 yards. It was Bellow's first time to face Zone coverage and it appeared to shake him up a bit but in the second half he was able to shake off the interceptions and with 1 minute left in the game Bellow hits Asa Cardenas running the sideline for 37 yards and the final Bulldog Touchdown of the night. Cameron Bass did most of the rushing picking up 73 yards with a 34 yard scamper around left end to keep Nederland's touchdown drive alive. The Bulldogs secondary once again had some big stops that kept Waller out of the enzone and Justin Krautz intercepting a tipped ball with 45 seconds left in the game to seal the deal on the hot, humid, cramping, not so pretty win. A win is a win regardless of how it came about. What is a pretty win anyway? "It's football" Football and Pretty should never be used together. The dogs will have next Friday off and return the 28th for Vidor at Home (Homecoming). Scoring summary: Wareall Grogan strips Waller QB of ball and runs 80 yards: Vadrine PAT Dravannti Johnson retuns fumble 28 yards: Vadrine PAT Bellow to Asa Cardenas 37 yards: Vadrine PAT Mark Strayhorn |
