Dogs "lack of experience" "No Problem" Varsity Talk is true, Nederland does have a few on the field with very little snaps but they were not showing it Friday night against Jasper. New Offense, New calls usually equals a few extra timeouts until you get the bugs worked out but Nederland only used 2 during two quarters of play. With Bass and Lovelady watching from the sidelines Roy (Sophomore) ran 23 yards on 5 carries with most of his yardage on pitchouts. Jaspers front line was huge and quick keeping Roy at bay in the middle. Dog "D" kept Jasper from scoring until the 3rd quarter and managed to get an interception and recover to fumbles along the way. DJ was applying the pressure and forcing Jasper to run sweeps away from him. Most of the dogs yardage came from pass plays from Sampere to Broussard. Sampere completed a 27 yard pass to backflipping Broussard to setup the first Dog points, when Gutierrez runs 4 yards around the end for 6. Pat good by Vidrine. Trahan followed up in the 2nd quarter with a 27 yard field goal and Nederland won the game like scrimmage 10 - 6. Junior Varsity JV struggled to move the ball against a tough Jasper JV but did well in spurts. Westbrook and Atterberry took turns at QB. JV defense held Jasper out of the endzone until the very last play of the game. JV 0 - 1 Freshman The Central, CO Wilson merge was good for Nederland this year and it showed Friday as Salenga (C.O.W) and Kemp (Central) had an exciting scrimmage. Smith (C.O.W) showed a good arm with a soft touch. Defense look solid most of the scrimmage. Nederland 3 - 1 with a 71 yard Salenga TD called back for a clip. Mark Strayhorn |
