Air Sam guns down Cubs Ryan Sampere “Air Sam” or ASAM on the stock exchange is definitely getting some attention from district 22-4A coaches and Nederland fans. Sampere completed 13 of 25 passes for 261 yards. Sampere has had some help with some great catches from Broussard, Cardenas, Stanley, and Vidrine. Ryan’s ability to roll out and pass has matured immensely. Coach Neumann and company never cease to amaze me with their ability to overcome so many obstacles. Just once I would like to sit in on Coach Neumann’s game speeches and find out just exactly what it is that you can say to a sophomore to make him go out on a Friday night Varsity football game and battle with someone 8 inches taller and 60 pounds heavier. Brenham’s first 2 possessions were for points but that’s all it took for Coach Spell to devise a plan to slow that cubby down. After pulling out the drawing board and a few conversations, defense pulled it together and kept Brenham from scoring again until the 4th quarter. Defensive line made some big stops and Stanley made some great open field tackles that definitely were point stoppers. The running game was tough and at times could only go backwards but then again Brenham’s power line is geared to stop the run and it showed. Special teams played hard and made the game momentum switched to Nederland throughout the game. Considering that at any given time, there can be as many as 3 sophomores on the field shows the Dogs determination and heart to win the war. The Dogs fought hard and gave all. Scoring summary: Sampere keep for 11 yards: Vadrine PAT Sampere to Cardenas 64 yard pass/run: Vadrine PAT wide left Sampere keep for 1 yard: 2 pt conversion pass incomplete to Gutierrez Sampere to Cardenas 28 yard pass/run: Vadrine PAT Trahan 37 yard FG Mark Strayhorn |
