Nederland’s 4th Quarter Romp Stuns Bears

The Battlin’ Bears came into the game against Nederland with a mission. That mission was to stop Mosley and control the ball long enough to outscore Nederland. However, a big defensive turnout from both teams limited Nederland and LC-M’s scoring potential.

LC-M was able to stop an early Nederland drive forcing a turnover on 4th down. The first half was a pretty lackluster performance by the offense for the Bears and the Bulldogs. The only points scored came from a 23-yard touchdown pass from QB President Driver to Phillip Richard towards the start of the second quarter. The extra point was missed, making the score 6-0 at the half.

Nederland’s sluggish start continued in the third quarter, still unable to put any points on the board. LC-M’s passing game was key in this matchup and it proved to be nearly unstoppable late in the third as the Bears were able to cap off the drive with a 14-yard scamper by Andrew Cooper to extend the Bears’ lead 12-0 (2-point conversion failed.)

Micah Mosley and Co. found a sense of unparalleled urgency that shouted louder than LC-M’s quite obnoxious PA system. Mosley and Gutierrez began running smooth over the LC-M defenders capping off the long drive with a 5 yard run by Mosley narrowing the gap 12-7 with a little over eight minutes remaining in the game. Nederland was able to get the ball back after LC-M was unable to complete a third down pass that would’ve been a first down. Nederland began what will be remember for some time as “The Drive,” from their own 15-yard line with a little under 2 minutes remaining in the game. Senior QB Alex Moshier, who struggled with his passing game all night, turned into a precision passer enabling Nederland to march down the field like they owned it. The drive was capped off by none other than Senior RB and District rushing leader, Micah Mosley. Mosley also scampered in for the two-point conversion increasing the Nederland lead 15-12 with 38 seconds left in the game. LC-M was unable to get down the field in the allotted time, even with the help of an apparently missing timekeeper who didn’t run any time off the clock during one of LC-M’s long pass plays. Nederland ended the game with an interception and kneel down in one of the most exciting Bulldog comeback’s in Larry Neumann’s tenure. Nederland travels to Dayton next week to take on the only undefeated team in District 22-4A.
