Full Moon Haunts Mid-County

Nederland and PN-G entered the second week of district play with a huge chip on each shoulder. Nederland, falling to Vidor to open district, found itself in a near must-win district game against Central this week at Nederland’s homecoming at Bulldog Stadium. PN-G in a different turn of events, came into LC-M 1-0 after a huge win against a lackluster performance by a winless Ozen.

The Bulldog defense, which faired well against 4A powerhouse teams like Waller and La Marque, suffered a huge blow from Central’s running attack at Bulldog Stadium. Nederland allowed 513 yards on defense and an unprecedented 9 touchdowns in Central’s 63-24 rout of Nederland. A very disappointing performance by Nederland’s defense reveals problems that have existed ever since Mosley was pulled from his defensive position to give him more energy to run before district play began. This game will have head coach Larry Neumann racing back to the drawing board as him and his coaching staff prepare to enter the Reservation next week in the biggest rivalry this area has to offer.

PN-G might be redirecting traffic on offense going into Mid-County Madness next week. PN-G, an early favorite, got its bell rung by LC-M this Friday to the tune of 42-0. This is the second straight week that 22-4A has seen a huge upset; both weeks at the demise of mid-county teams. PN-G turned the ball over 7 times including 5 interceptions. Nederland will be looking to revamp its defense to take advantage of the struggling Indians offense. Look for a high scoring game and several personnel changes in an exciting 2006 Mid-County Madness game.

The effect that this game has on the remainder of this season is huge. After PN-G’s loss last week, Nederland has an advantage to climb into the race for third. If Nederland loses this one to PN-G then they are out of the playoff picture in 22-4A. PN-G is looking to hang in at the top of the pack with Dayton and Central, the top two teams expected in the playoffs in addition to vying for the 22-4A title. Nederland has its back against the wall and must provide a strong defense to allow its offense back. Mosley is probable for next week and if one thing positive came out of the Central game, it’s that Nederland can throw the ball. This will be advantageous as it pertains to opening up the field more for Mosley.
